Can't Connect to the Net
Overview of Troubleshooting Steps -
10 Minute Troubleshooting Steps
1> Try
connecting to Google or Yahoo. These two sites are usually up.
2> Try
different browsers.
3> Reboot
your router and modem. ( Cycle power on both )
4> Open a
command prompt and type in the following:
ping google.com
ping
87.248.113.14
(Yahoo)
ping 74.125.77.99
(Google)
If pinging google.com succeeded but the browser failed you have a
corrupted or infected browser.
If pinging google.com failed but pinging the ip address succeeded
then you have a DNS issue.
5> Try
plugging in these OPEN DNS numbers
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
6>
Run the following command to find the break in the connection:
tracert 87.248.113.14 (Yahoo)
This command shows every hop between you and Yahoo. It will stop at
the broken link.
If it gets pass your router's ip address CALL YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER.
7>
Bypass your internal router and repeat the above steps. Check for
link lights.
Pinging the Internet
Run these commands in the order shown, and don’t go on to the next
command until all of the previous commands work properly. Use the
Default Gateway and DNS Server addresses that you got from the
ipconfig /all command.

Pinging the Local Area Network
Run them in the order
shown, and don’t go on to the next command until all of the previous
commands work properly.
